Building Theatre: Creating a Live Music Video
Mission: To create an original, theatrical music video for a song of your choice that conveys story, message, and emotion. Assignment Details:(group project)
In groups of five, choose a song (obscure or well known) and create a livemusic video, which will be performed on stage before an audience. Find a song that lends itself to dramatic presentation.
Your presentation may include the following:
silent narrative scenes
lines of dialogue
Your piece may or may not be lip-syncedby a member ormembers of the group. The choice is yours.
Requirements: · Create a storyboard for your piece (as demonstrated in class) · Create an original video not basedon a previous version · Must deepen the understanding of the song for the audience · Must be a minimumof two minutes in length or longer.

Individual Research Project: Analysis of a Music Video
Assignment Details:(individual project)
Choose an appropriate music video to analyze. Select onewhich fascinates you: a new music video you have recently discovered or one you have watched numerous times. Make sure you have a copy of the lyrics to reference while viewing the piece.
Semioticsis the study of signs and symbols and their use or interpretation while aestheticsis a branch of philosophy which explores beauty and artistic taste. In your analysis, please refer to both the symbolic and the aesthetic nature of the video.
In your opinion, share why and how the video is effective, entertaining, informative, powerful, beautiful, emotional...? What threads or binds the piece together? Are there recurring images or scenes? Is there a story told in the video which corresponds to the lyrics directly or indirectly? What characters are featured in the video? What props, costumes, colours are used? How do the images change or deepen the meaning of the lyrics? Finally, what are the major strengths of this video?

*Please note that we will continue to work the scenes (at least run them once each class) during the music video rehearsal time to make sure we are ready for our December 13thperformance day.
“A Taste of Class,” our scene night is scheduled for Thursday, DECEMBER 12. CALL TIME: 6 pm PERFORMANCE: 7:30 pm in the LVR Theatre (The evening will be two hours in length with a ten- minute intermission and bake sale.)
